In Ulm he sensationally won the German basketball championship as a coach. Now an emotional return could be imminent for Anton Gavel.
Basketball champion coach Anton Gavel does not want to say anything about speculation about his impending return to Bamberg. “I won’t comment on any rumors,” said Gavel on the streaming service Dyn. The 39-year-old sensationally led ratiopharm Ulm to its first Bundesliga championship last summer and is now apparently about to leave.
According to Dyn, Gavel should move to Bamberg Baskets this summer, for whom he played as a professional between 2009 and 2014. When specifically asked if he could deny the rumor, Gavel replied: “You can ask the question however you want, but I already said that before.”
While defending champion Ulm is on course for the playoffs in the table, Bamberg already has 13 defeats this season. There is nothing left of the former series champion in terms of sport. “Anton is a sensational coach. Out of 1,000 coaches, he would be the only one who could win the title with this team last year. It would be very, very painful,” said Ulm’s professional Tommy Klepeisz. Gavel won the championship as a professional in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 with the club from Franconia.
