Things got uncomfortable for second division soccer team SV Guntamatic Ried before tomorrow’s home game against Liefering (6:10 p.m., Innviertel Arena). After the 0-1 defeat in Leoben, the third defeat in the fourth spring game, sports director Wolfgang Fiala took the team to task. Plain language was spoken. “The players felt that the analysis was getting tougher. We have to wake up and understand that the second league is not about self-realization.”
He attaches great importance to the home game against the Young Bulls: “We also have to get going with a view to the coming season. We don’t have three months to carry on like this.”
Have Ried’s kickers taken the criticism to heart and will react tomorrow? “We will do everything we can to show our identity on the pitch. We want to show our fans that we are fighting for these three points,” says defense chief Nikki Havenaar.
It won’t be easy: Compared to the Vikings, Salzburg have a strong spring form. Liefering hasn’t lost a game yet and has taken ten out of twelve possible points. The most recently suspended Fabian Wohlmuth returns to the squad, only the long-term injured Marcel Ziegl, Matthias Gragger and Belmin Beganovic are out.
