Winter sports: Biathlete Preuß continues

An operation on the paranasal sinuses should finally end Franziska Preuß’ ordeal. The 30-year-old definitely wants to continue.

Former biathlon world champion Franziska Preuß is finally hoping for stable health after an operation on her nasal sinuses. “It’s a story with the sinuses that keeps coming back. You now have an approach and you can see in black and white what doesn’t fit. It can be fixed and I’m looking into it now,” the 30-year-old told ZDF.

The Bavarian was unable to compete in the women’s relay at the World Championships in Nove Mesto in February due to illness. Due to the infection, which once again spread to her sinuses, she also had to miss the Overseas World Cup in Soldier Hollow/USA and the season finale in Canmore, Canada. “I haven’t had much to laugh about in the last two or three weeks. But I hope that everything heals well and that the problems are finally a thing of the past,” said Preuß, who even wore the yellow jersey of the overall World Cup leader at the start of the season.

In the new season, the ski hunter, who has struggled with health setbacks and injuries her entire career, wants to attack again. “If I’m healthy and fit, I’m absolutely capable of fighting at the front. I’ll definitely take the good feeling with me and that I have the potential in me,” said Preuß.
