Registrations for the 22nd edition are currently trickling in at the Linz marathon office every minute, after the last entry deadline ends at midnight today. Upper Austria’s largest festival dedicated to running and the joy of exercise has already started before the starting signal on the 6th/7th. April almost reached a self-imposed milestone. The targeted 15,000 participant mark will be broken even before late registration is possible on the event weekend. Why things are going so well in Linz:
- New opportunities: Sooner or later there will be something for every starter in Linz. The five-kilometer competition, which was introduced this time, immediately proved to be a hit. “We have been receiving an enormous number of reports about this in the last few days,” says race director Günther Weidlinger.
- Fast routes: Linz has also made a name for itself in recent years with its brisk course. Marathon winner Simon Boch raved about this last year. “The track is perfect. Ultra flat, simply super fast. If the weather is right, a great time is always possible here,” said the German after his victory. This applies to professionals as well as ambitious amateur athletes.
- Great service: The multiple award for “most popular city marathon of the year in Austria” is no coincidence. The event, which this year aims to be certified according to the criteria of the Austrian Ecolabel, also wants to score points this time with good all-round support. In the scene, Linz is considered a service marathon that looks after its starters well from training starting in November to the refreshment station after the finish. “Of course we want to continue to live up to this reputation,” says Weidlinger.
