Cristiano Ronaldo once wanted to personally convince Ivan Rakitic to move to Juventus, but the deal failed because of the transfer fee.
Ivan Rakitic spoke to 24 hours reveal that he was about to move from FC Barcelona to Italy’s record champions Juventus in 2019 and that even superstar Cristiano Ronaldo personally campaigned for it.
“Cristiano called me personally in summer 2019 to suggest a move to Juve,” said Rakitic. “He told me that the club wanted me too, but the transfer failed. The € 50million that Barca asked for was too much.”
Rakitic under contract with Seville until 2024
Instead, a year later, Rakitic moved back to Sevilla FC for just 1.5 million euros, where he had already played for three years before moving to Catalonia in 2014.
The 33-year-old had won the Spanish championship and the cup four times with Barca. He also won the Champions League with Barca in 2015. His contract in Seville runs until 2024.
