Wohlmuth shot SV Ried to victory in the 89th minute

“It was a dirty but important victory.” Fabian Wohlmuth, who became the match winner for SV Guntamatic Ried in the 3:2 (1:1) against FC Liefering in the 2nd football league in the 89th minute, had relief written all over his face. The “Vikings” have reduced the gap to GAK (1-1 against Lafnitz), who will be playing in the Innviertel Arena after the international break on March 29th (8:30 p.m.), to 13 points. Nevertheless, it would be completely presumptuous to dream of promotion again now.

“This victory is a real milestone on our long-term path,” said SVR coach Maximilian Senft, who spoke a lot about emotional and physical dominance. “The team had to listen to a lot during the week, they grew and did an excellent job.” Even being behind twice against Liefering (Agyekum/2nd, Yeo/69th) couldn’t throw the “Vikings”, whose starting eleven had changed in four positions compared to the 0-1 loss in Leoben, off track.

The Rieders fought courageously and also set playful accents – especially with the inclusion of left-back David Bumberger after the break. The 25-year-old prepared Wilfried Eza’s 2-2 (79′) with an exemplary cross and also the all-important 3-2 with a low shot. The 1:1 (13th) was thanks to Niki Havenaar, who led the team onto the pitch as captain.

The reason: goalkeeper Andreas Leitner, who had been weakened due to illness in recent days, was sitting on the bench.

Wöllinger leaves the club

A personnel decision had already been made before kick-off. Rainer Wöllinger, who took over as managing director of the then upper house club on November 12, 2020, is leaving SV Guntamatic Ried at the end of the season.

“We came to the conclusion together that we should end the journey,” said the 50-year-old: “We experienced wonderful moments, but of course also difficult situations.”

SVR President Thomas Gahleitner thanked Wöllinger: “The collaboration was always characterized by mutual respect and appreciation.”
