In the spectacular 4-3 win on Sunday, Amad Diallo scored decisively for the home team in the 121st minute at Old Trafford. Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp has to write off the first of four possible titles in his farewell season. Before that, Chelsea made it to the semi-finals thanks to a 4-2 win against second division Leicester City.

Liverpool were behind after an early goal from Scott McTominay (10th), but managed to turn things around in the final minutes of the first half thanks to Alexis Mac Allister (44th) and Mohamed Salah (45th + 2). Antony equalized for the “Red Devils” shortly before the end (87th). In extra time, United were closer to the third goal, but Liverpool scored: a deflected shot from Harvey Elliott ended up in the goal (105th).

But the team of coach Erik ten Hag, who was criticized, struck back again. Marcus Rashford scored to make it 3-3 (112′), before Diallo’s goal from a counterattack after a Liverpool corner caused a storm of celebration from the home fans. After celebrating, the goalscorer had to leave the field with a yellow-red card. “We played excellently, but couldn’t decide the game early,” said Klopp. Liverpool has already won the League Cup this year. In addition to the championship title, Klopp can also lead his team to triumph in the Europa League.

Chelsea also avoided extra time late on against Leicester. Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke scored the goals to secure promotion for the Blues in the 92nd and 98th minutes respectively. Marc Cucurella (13th) and Cole Palmer (45th + 1) had given the Londoners a seemingly reassuring 2-0 half-time lead. But Leicester, who were on course for promotion, managed to get the next goal thanks to a strange own goal from Axel Disasi (51st) before Stephy Malvididi (62nd) equalized for the outsiders. However, against guests decimated after an exclusion, Chelsea scored a late victory.

Manchester City had already beaten Newcastle United 2-0 in the quarter-finals on Saturday. Second division club Coventry City won 3-2 at Premier League club Wolverhampton. In the semi-finals (April 20/21) at Wembley Stadium, City will face Chelsea and United will play against Coventry.
