Leverkusen remained unbeaten in their 38th competitive game of the season. The league leaders’ goals were scored by Florian Wirtz to make it 1-0 (2nd), Adam Hlozek to make it 2-1 (40th) and Patrik Schick to make it 3-1 (53rd). Freiburg was able to equalize through Ritsu Doan (10th). Philipp Lienhart and Michael Gregoritsch were substituted on for the home team after just over an hour of play. However, more than 2:3 by Yannik Keitel (79th) was not possible for Freiburg.

In Dortmund, BVB successfully defended fourth place in the table, one point ahead of RB Leipzig. Mario Götze, of all people, gave Frankfurt the lead in the duel with his former club in the 13th minute. Karim Adeyemi (33′) and Mats Hummels (81′) turned the game around with their goals. Emre Can, whose red card for foul play was converted into yellow after video evidence (87th), made the final score with a converted penalty kick in stoppage time (93rd). The suspended Marcel Sabitzer was missing from Dortmund.
