Good things take time – that’s what the kickers from the women’s second division team LASK recently learned: 112 days after the last championship game of the autumn season in the 2nd women’s Bundesliga, the Linz women secured a 1-1 draw in the catch-up game at SPG Pinzgau/Saalfelden namely the unofficial title of “Autumn Master”.
Two games had previously been canceled due to weather, which is why the 10th round in the second highest division could only be rescheduled at the beginning of March. Albeta Nemcova equalized before the break in the 44th minute after Salzburg’s lead goal from Hannah Theriault (11th). “It was a fair division of points, now we are deserved autumn champions,” said LASK coach Benjamin Stolte with a smile.
The Linz women started the spring championship one point ahead of their pursuers SPG Südburgenland/TSV Hartberg (25) – and retained their belated first place even after the first official spring round: On Saturday, the Stolte team beat Krottendorf 2-1.
Rivals felt the same way
It was not the first time that the autumn championship title was only awarded in the spring: local rivals Kleinmünchen were in a similar situation in the 2005/2006 season – they were only crowned autumn champions after a five-month break. At the time of the winter break, the Linz women were leading with 25 points after nine rounds, ahead of Landhaus (22) and Neulengbach (21). Since the duel between the pursuers could not take place in the fall, Neulengbach crowned the Linzers as the belated “winter queens” in the supplementary game on April 15, 2006 with a win against Landhaus.
