The death of former ice hockey player Konstantin Koltsov, partner of Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka, is being treated as a “probable suicide”the Miami-Dade Police, in the United States, reported on Tuesday.
The police spokesman, Argemis Colomesaid in an email that on Monday at 00:39 local time (0439 GMT) the police “were sent to the St. Regis Bal Harbor Resort, to attend to a case of a man who jumped from a balcony.”
“The Homicide Office of the Miami-Dade Police Department responded and has taken over the investigation of the probable suicide of Mr. Konstantin Koltsov. “No criminal act is suspected to have occurred,” he added.
Throughout his career, the Belarusian athlete played in the powerful North American Ice Hockey League (NHL) with the Pittsburgh Penguins in more than 140 games.
“The Penguins extend their deepest condolences to the family and friends” of Koltsov, the team said in a statement. The former forward played with Belarus in the Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City-2002 and Vancouver-2010, in addition to nine editions of the Ice Hockey World Cup.
Koltsov He had three children with his ex-wife Julia, whom he divorced in 2020 before starting a relationship with Aryna Sabalenka.
The Belarusian tennis player, second in the women’s ranking and two-time winner of the Australian Open, has so far not made any statements about the death of her partner.
