Russian boxer Edgar Ghukasyan defeated Argentinean Ricardo Villalba on Saturday, December 18, within the framework of the Storm on the Volga tournament. This is reported by REN TV.
As a result of the victory, Ghukasyan returned the belt of the WBA Asia South champion.
The Russian, despite his habit of actively pressing from the very beginning of the fight, kept himself carefully. At the end of the first round, both boxers began to behave more aggressively, but already in the second round, the fight had to be stopped due to suspicion of a hand injury from Viyalba after a series of punches by Ghukasyan.
The fight became one of the most anticipated in the tournament. The athletes have already met in the ring: in the first fight, Viyalba won a “technical victory”. Then Ghukasyan was disqualified for a prohibited header, after which the opponent could not continue the fight.
On December 16, a weigh-in ceremony took place before the Storm on the Volga tournament. Gukasyan’s weight was 72.25 kg, Villalba – 71.5 kg. In addition, the Russian and the Argentine had a “battle of views”. Both rivals looked very tensely into each other’s eyes, the “duel” lasted almost a minute. According to eyewitnesses, Ghukasyan “pierced” Viyalba with his gaze
The main fights of the “Storm on the Volga” tournament will be shown live on REN TV.
