After last year’s successful attempt to beat the existing course record for women, this year it is again the men’s turn at the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon on April 7th. The top-class elite field, which is expected to beat the record of 2:06:13 minutes over the 42.195 kilometers that has existed since 2022, is taking shape.
With a personal best of 2:05:28, Goitom Kifle leads the Linz entry list. The speedy man from Eritrea took 14th place at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. His training partner and manager Tadesse Abraham (himself the current Swiss record holder with 2:05:01, set last weekend as winner of the Barcelona Marathon) is determined to crack the record case possible. “Goitom Kifle is in very good shape and will definitely take on the challenge,” says Abraham, who will also personally look after his athlete in Upper Austria.
Without good followers and pacemakers it will still be difficult. Ibrahim Hassan Bouh from Djibouti, one of the aces who will drive Kifle, has also already been confirmed. Rebecah Jeruto Cherop from Kenya, who came third in Linz last year, has already been re-signed for the women’s team.
Title collector Vojta is coming
The national marathon championship will also be held in Linz this year. Andreas Vojta, who has a total of 48 championship titles in various running disciplines, is aiming for the Olympic limit in Paris.
After the third closing date, over 16,000 participants have already registered. Late entries are still possible on the event weekend.
