The Miami Masters 1000 presents a striking modification in the allocation of prizes. In contrast to the common practice of increasing the prizes for the champion each year, those responsible for the tournament chose to decrease the sums allocated to the finalists and semi-finalists.
The strategy aims to significantly increase the prizes of the first rounds, thus helping to reduce the large income disparities of the lowest ranked players. Miami won’t be the only tournament to adopt this strategy to modify prize money; Indian Wells, at the start of the “Sunshine Double,” also opted for a similar approach in a curious twist.
The fact that only about 150 players can earn a living in full conditions within one of the most practiced and followed sports has at many times provoked the indignation of players, coaches and fans.

Notably, the Miami Open is a combined ATP and WTA event and one of the few tournaments to offer equal pay in all rounds for men and women competing. However, the allocation of points differs slightly for the two competitions.
The final and championship rounds will see the most significant discrepancy, with a 10% reduction compared to the previous season. Despite this reduction, lThe champions’ earnings continue to be notable, with $1,100,000 (both the ATP and the WTA) and will receive 1,000 ranking points. The finalists will also experience a slight decline, taking home $585,000 and they will get 650 points. The variation of points begins from the semifinal and goes to the lower rounds.
The semi-finalists will pocket US$325,000 but men will get 400 points and women 390 points. The quarterfinalists, for their part, will win US$385,000, a figure slightly higher than that of 2023. Men get 200 points and women 215 points.
The breakdown of prize money and allocation of points in the main draw begins in the first round. Players who do not win a match will be generously compensated, with these players pocketing $23,250 and receiving 10 points for both competitions.
