Boxer Grigory Drozd on Saturday, December 18, commented on the victory of Maxim Babanin in a fight against Cameroonian Olivier Daud Mekongo at the Storm on the Volga tournament.
“Maxim Babanin is great. I did it calmly, beautifully. As I believe, the opponent came out as a substitute at the last moment, did not prepare properly, but in any case he looked decent. And Maxim, of course, very accurately approached the battle from a technical point of view, ”REN TV quotes Drozd as saying.
The boxer added that in some moments Babanin could hit the opponent harder, but he beat him very correctly.
“He made an early victory, so it looks noble, a good fight,” concluded Drozd.
The battle, in which Babanin defeated the Mekongo, took place the day before. In the first round, the Cameroonian mostly defended. Babanin felt confident in the ring. In the second round, after a powerful blow from the Russian, the referee decided to stop the fight.
Also in this tournament Timur Slashchinin from Samara defeated the Cameroonian Tyson Dijon. Nevertheless, the behavior of the latter in the ring was distinguished by the greatest maneuverability and caution.
Denis Vildanov, known as Big Dad, suffered a leg injury during a fall, because of which the fight was stopped, and the victory was awarded to Maxim Shcherbakov (Max Ax). At the very beginning of the first round, Ax carried out a powerful series of punches, as a result he confidently knocked out Vildanov and emerged victorious from the battle.
Later, Big Daddy said that doctors diagnosed him with a broken leg. He stressed that he fell not from the blow, but from the fact that he put his foot incorrectly and stumbled.
In addition, Russian boxer Edgar Ghukasyan and Argentinean Ricardo Viyalba fought in the ring. The Russian won the victory, regaining the belt of the WBA Asia South champion.
The tournament was broadcast live by REN TV.
