Dominik Koepfer was the first German tennis player to qualify for the round of 16 of the Masters tournament in Miami. The 29-year-old defeated 14th seeded Frenchman Ugo Humbert 3:6, 6:4, 6:3 after 2:14 hours in the hard court tournament. In the round of 16, Kopefer will face defending champion Daniil Medvedev.
Previously, Koepfer had also eliminated a seeded player in Miami, the Argentinian Sebastián Báez. The Black Forest native is in the round of 16 of a 1000 series Masters tournament for the first time since November 2021.
Another German tennis professional, Yannick Hanfmann, was successful. The 32-year-old defeated the 19th seeded Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 3:6, 7:6, 6:4 and is in the third round, where Hanfmann faces the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov scores.
