Etcheverry and Navone were one step away from the finals in Houston and Marrakech

The Argentine tennis player Tomas Etcheverry fell this Saturday against the local Ben Shelton in the semifinals of the ATP 250 of Houstonwhere last year he had been a finalist.

Etcheverry, number 30 in the world ranking, won the first set against the young Shelton (16th) but ended up succumbing by a score of 6-7 (4), 6-4 and 6-4 in two and a half hours of play.

The 24-year-old player from La Plata aspired to a second chance in the final of this clay-court tournament after losing last year to fellow American Frances Tiafoe.

On the other hand, Shelton, first seeded in Houston, will play his first final on this surface and the second of his career, after winning last year in Tokyo on a hard court.

Navone couldn’t in Marrakech either

Current champion, the Spanish Roberto Carballés (64th) qualified this Saturday for the final of the ATP 250 of Marrakeshin which he will fight for the title with a heavyweight on the circuit like Matteo Berrettini, who has fallen to 135th position due to injuries.

Carballés, who will seek his third ATP title, beat the Russian Pavel Kotov (68th) in two sets, 6-4 and 6-2, while Berrettini beat the Argentine Mariano Navone (60th) by 6-7 (4), 6-3 and 6-2.
