Wrongly lost? The Black Wings protested

The bottom of the ICE Hockey League is finding it difficult to go back to the agenda on Sunday after the bitter 4-5 home defeat after extra time against the penultimate Dornbirn. The Steinbach Black Wings feel they have been deprived of victory after the controversial goal they conceded to 4: 4 – allegedly three tenths of a second before the end of regular time – and protested against the score of the game yesterday morning.

The Linzers refer to the possibility, anchored in paragraph 9 of the “Game Book” under the title “Investigation Procedures”, to raise objections in the event of violations of fundamental rules.

“In none of the camera positions available to us it is evident that the puck crossed the goal line before the siren. It is clearly visible and audible in several videos that the siren has already started to howl before the shot is fired,” says Wings manager Gregor, annoyed Baumgartner on the decision of the Hungarian referees Daniel Rencz and Daniel Soos, who awarded the Bulldogs the 4: 4 after minutes of video study. That would have required 100 percent security, which the Black Wings doubt.

The recording available to OÖN supports the protest, Dornbirn legionnaire Kevin Hancock only started to shoot when the siren went off. The puck wriggled too late in the net. It’s about two points that the Linzers want to fight for at the green table. The objection fee is 500 euros, if the outcome is successful, 250 will be reimbursed. That is the procedure.

Today (7.15 p.m., live ticker on nachrichten.at) The Black Wings, who urgently need a winning streak in the struggle for a play-off ticket, are visiting Villacher SV. Incidentally, the Carinthians protested last season after the 2: 3 in the third quarter-finals at the KAC (March 16), only the situation was reversed. A VSV gate (before or after the siren) was not recognized.

The league’s legal commission did not allow the objection because it had only arrived seven minutes after the deadline. In addition, it was a final, irreversible on-ice factual decision. (Alex)
