Ralf Rangnick as future Bayern coach? This idea sounds interesting – but not for the former RB coach, as he assures. He wants to head to the World Cup with Austria after the European Championships.
Austria’s national soccer coach Ralf Rangnick has rejected speculation about a possible commitment to FC Bayern Munich. He doesn’t deal with this topic. “Why should I?”, the 65-year-old responded to a question after the European Championship trainers’ workshop in Düsseldorf.
The long-time Bundesliga coach from RB Leipzig, among others, was recently seen as a possible successor to Thomas Tuchel, who has to leave the German soccer record champions after the disappointing season. “It would burn” in many places, Rangnick added in response to another question with reference to the current mood of crisis among Bayern. That is no reason for his name to be brought into play.
Rangnick: “The focus is now on the European Championships”
Rangnick qualified for the European Championship with Austria’s national team and made people take notice again with a 2-0 friendly win against Germany in November. “I still have a contract until the World Cup qualifiers and our focus now is on the European Championships,” said Rangnick.
At the tournament in Germany, Austria will face France, Poland and the Netherlands in Group D. Rangnick and his selection will be staying in Berlin, in the hotel where the German team stayed at the 2006 World Cup.
