Laura Siegemund scored the decisive third point for Germany in the duel with hosts Brazil with a 6:1, 2:6, 6:3 win in the fourth singles match against Carolina Alves. The final round of the traditional national competition will take place in Seville in November. Brazil has to play in playoffs against relegation from the World Group.
In the third singles, Anna-Lena Friedsam (30) was beaten by top player Beatriz Haddad Maia 7:5, 0:6, 1:6, which meant that Brazil temporarily reduced the duel on clay to 1:2.
