German swimmer Florian Wellbrock wins the 1500m crawl at the World Cup

German swimmer Florian Wellbrock won the 1500m crawl at the World Championships in Abu Dhabi, UAE, setting a world record. This was announced on Tuesday, December 21, by the German edition Sport-1.

The 21-year-old athlete swam the distance in 14 minutes 6.88 seconds. Thus, he broke the record for Italian swimmer Gregorio Paltrinieri, who covered the same distance in 2015 in 14 minutes 08.06 seconds.

Tunisian Ahmed Ayub Hafnawi (+4.06) finished second in Abu Dhabi. The three leaders were closed by the swimmer from Ukraine Mykhailo Romanchuk (+4.59).

Earlier at these competitions, on December 19, Russian Kliment Kolesnikov won the gold medal in the short course in the 50 m backstroke, notes Sport-Express. The athlete covered the distance in 22.66 seconds. The second result was shown by German Christian Diener and Italian Lorenzo Mora – 22.90 seconds. And one more representative of Russia – Pavel Samusenko became the fourth.

The World Cup in Abu Dhabi runs from December 16 to 21.
