New York City FC recently gained approval to use land at Willets Point in Queens, near the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center and Citi Field. The new stadium will have capacity for 25,000 seated spectators and its inauguration is scheduled for 2027.

The American club announced last year its intention to settle there with the help of the Real Madrid president’s construction company, Florentino Pérez Turner Construction Company, a subsidiary of the ACS group. Since its debut in 2013 in MLS, New York City FC has played its games in stadiums such as Yankee Stadium, Citi Field and Red Bull Stadium.
The MLS, in force for thirty years, thus obtains the first stadium in the largest city in the United States.

New York City Football Club is owned by the City Football Groupwhose main asset is Manchester City. The conglomerate also operates with ten other clubs, including Girona Futbol Club, Melbourne City Football Club and Montevideo City Torque.
The group has its origins in 2008, when the Abu Dhabi United Group took control of Manchester City. Five years later, the new owners of the British club took control of the New York Yankeeswhich changed its name to New York City Football Club, and created the new holding.
