Alexander Zverev has reached the quarter-finals of the BMW Open in Munich. The best German tennis professional defeated the Austrian Jurij Rodionov 7:6 (7:3), 6:2 and defied two long rain interruptions. The Olympic champion and his rival once had to leave the field for more than two hours and shortly afterwards for almost an hour because showers and sometimes even hail fell on the facility in the north of Munich.
The fifth in the world rankings ultimately remained confident and lived up to his role as favorite after 1:40 hours of pure playing time. In the round of the best eight he will face the winner of the game Cristian Garin (Chile) against Alex Michelsen (USA). The match could not be played on Wednesday due to bad weather and is now scheduled to take place on Thursday.
Rudi Molleker lost his round of 16 6:4, 1:6, 1:6 against Jack Draper from Great Britain. The 23-year-old from Oranienburg had won the first set before the rain forced a break. Afterwards, Molleker completely lost track and had to admit defeat to the sixth-seeded Brit.
