Formula 1: Red Bulls Marko: Vettel would come back in a top car

He knows him from our shared successes. In Shanghai, Red Bull’s motorsport advisor Helmut Marko talks about the conditions for a possible comeback by Sebastian Vettel.

Red Bull’s motorsport consultant Helmut Marko has confirmed Sebastian Vettel’s possible comeback intentions. The 80-year-old Austrian knows the four-time world champion well from their time together with the current industry leader in Formula 1.

“I think he wants it if he sees the chance to get a top car somewhere,” Marko said on the TV channel Sky about Vettel’s possible return next season: “Then he’s ready for it.”

Vettel resigned after the 2022 season; above all, he wanted to spend more time with his family. The Heppenheim native, who will turn 37 in July, has three children. Recently, Vettel himself had flirted with resigning in several interviews.

No place available at Red Bull

But Vettel has now been “out of the window for over a year, and there are no longer that many top seats,” emphasized Marko in the paddock of the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai. There is no place for Vettel at Red Bull, the team with which Vettel won the world championship in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. In addition to the Dutch triple champion Max Verstappen, Sergio Pérez from Mexico also appears to be racing in 2025. Marko confirmed this tendency once again.

According to media reports, Vettel will not make a comeback in Formula 1 in a Mercedes, as his great idol Michael Schumacher once did. At Ferrari, where Vettel has already driven but missed out on another title, both places have already been taken for next year’s season.
