Ferrari will present a unique image for the 2024 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, which will reference the manufacturer’s heritage in a contemporary way, with two shades of blue that will return from times past, with Azzuro La Plata and Azzurro Dino. The change will be made to honor Ferrari’s historic place in the United States, and marks the brand’s 70th anniversary in the country’s market.

The design has history since the iconic Rosso Corsa, the red synonymous with Italian racing cars since the 1920s, It was replaced by the white and blue colors of the United States for the final two races of the 1964 Formula 1 season, a combination that was also used on some other North American Racing Team (NART) Ferrari racing cars.

“Azzurro La Plata”, a lighter shade of blue that acts as the color of Argentina’s flag, echoes the color used by legendary driver Alberto Ascari during his most successful seasons in Formula 1 when he became the first champion Ferrari’s world championship, winning the title in 1952 and 1953. Well, the Italian driver used to wear a blue t-shirt accompanied by a matching helmet, which he considered his lucky charm.

The same color was also seen on the divers of Ferrari drivers in the 1960s, including those of John Surtees, Lorenzo Bandini, Ludovico Scariotti and Chris Amon. In fact, Niki Lauda’s sweatshirt during his first year with Ferrari was also this blue tone, as were the t-shirts worn by the team’s mechanics.

Azzurro Dino, the other color revived by the team before Miami, is a deeper shade that was also preferred by several drivers in the past. Of that, Clay Regazzoni was the last to wear it in 1974, and from then on, the pilots’ suits changed from blue to the now-familiar red, with occasional changes to white.

At the moment it was confirmed that the decoration of the car will be unveiled directly in Florida, but without a launch date, but it is expected to be in one of the many events that the Prancing Horse will begin to do starting on April 28.

Furthermore, at the Miami Grand Prix, two blue 296 GTS will be in the parade around the layout at Hard Rock Stadium.

Last year, the Italians already wore a special livery for the Italian Grand Prix, with yellow as a tribute to the 499P that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but a little before, they used a burgundy tone to celebrate their 1,000th race in the Formula 1 at the 2020 Tuscan Grand Prix in Mugello.
