Liverpool plans to break with Nike to sign for Adidas in 2025-2026

Liverpool has among its plans break his contract with Nike to sign for Adidas starting in the 2025-2026 season.

In this way, the Anfield team will take the opposite path to that of the German National Team, which from the 2027 season will wear Nike, after more than seventy years at the hands of Adidas.

Although Liverpool has not yet made the change of its technical sponsor official, in recent months it opened a bidding process to acquire its shirt, and the German sports equipment company was the highest bidder. If the agreement is formalized, it will unite the parties for the next thirteen seasons, until 2029-2030.

Nike, which has been dressing Liverpool since 2020-2021, pays around US$37.4 million per season, an amount that is far from what other top-level clubs in world football charge, such as Barcelona, which invoices around US$160.3 million a year for its agreement with the Oregon giant.

A similar amount was paid by New Balance, who signed for Liverpool before their move to Nike. The company founded in 1906 by William J. Riley spent $32 million a year. However, the new agreement with Adidas could report up to $62 million to Jürgen Klopp’s team.

Sources close to the team have confirmed that Puma was at the negotiating table, however, the German company is focused on its sponsorship with Manchester City, one of Liverpoo’s main rivals in the race for the Premier League.

On September 28, the fund specialized in investments in sports entities Dynasty Equity acquired a minority stake in Liverpool. The capital received by Fenway Sports Group, the majority shareholder of the English team, will be used to amortize the debt that the club signed to face the situation contracted by Covid-19, the capital expenditures made to improve Anfield, build the AXA training and buy back the Melwood training ground.
