Where the moat becomes a pond

Where the moat becomes a pond

On Wednesday, the OÖN reported that the one million euro revitalization of the Trauner Athletics Stadium was canceled without replacement and that all those involved, including the Upper Austrian Association President Günther Weidlinger, are satisfied with it. “I don’t agree with the latter,” Walter Regl contacted OÖN yesterday. The chairman of the athletics club LCAV Jodl Packaging is not concerned with the Traun location, but with his own: The ravages of time have really gnawed at the Vöcklabrucker Voralpenstadion. “The track is okay, the rest is in emergency mode,” said Regl. By emergency mode he means, for example, the broken discus cage, the torn high jump mat, the damaged shot put ring, the obstacle pit, which gradually turns into a pond due to a lack of drainage, or the timing , which has run out of time because of the missing thousandth place and the outdated light barrier itself.

“We want to be able to take part in the championship again,” Regl’s claims are by no means exaggerated. These are also a long way from the Trauns, which were intended as a substitute for large international meetings such as those on the Gugl in glorious times. Regl worries that the subsidies that are not needed for Traun and are not used for the rest of the athletics infrastructure in the country, knowing full well that it is not so easy with the divided funding.

Like Traun, Vöcklabruck was also part of the state’s athletics offensive. And as in Traun, nothing has happened in Vöcklabruck so far – because there, as there, the will of the city is lacking. So far, at least. In the autumn elections, Peter Schobesberger (SP) replaced Elisabeth Kölblinger (VP) in the Vöcklabruck mayor’s office. He has a concept prioritized by the club, the first step of which could be financed with 133,000 euros. Schobesberger was not available for the OÖN.
