After derby victory: Baumgart angry speech: “Everyone else can do me”

Hamburger SV wins the city derby against FC St. Pauli 1-0. Coach Steffen Baumgart is still angry afterwards.

HSV coach Steffen Baumgart has settled accounts with his critics after the 1-0 win in the Hamburg city derby against FC St. Pauli.

“I have the job here. I like doing it. And everyone else can see me where I’m even more beautiful,” said the 52-year-old in a Sky interview.

Despite the derby win, Hamburger SV is once again in danger of missing out on promotion to the Bundesliga. Two game days before the end of the season, the gap to the relegation place is still four points. Baumgart took over his favorite club in February when they finished third in the table.

Former master coach Christoph Daum called Baumgart’s signing a “huge mistake” in an “11Freunde” interview. HSV icon Felix Magath also criticized his long-standing club in an interview with the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” before the derby (“It seems he no longer has any claim”).

Baumgart didn’t name any names, but said confidently: “I know that I’m a good coach – regardless of whether you’re successful or not. I know what I can do. I don’t need anyone from the outside.” His critics “can say whatever they want – that’s their right. We’re all happy that we live in a free country. Everyone can express themselves. Even people who haven’t been in Hamburg for the last 20 years are speaking out were.”

The HSV coach also sharply criticized the referees. “To be honest: They annoy me. And that’s exactly what I mean,” he said. Two of his team’s goals were missed on Friday evening. Baumgart particularly criticized the fact that comparable scenes in different games are often rated differently.
