Coach search: Sky: FC Bayern asks Spaniard Lopetegui

FC Bayern is still looking for a new coach. Now the focus should be on a Spaniard. Meanwhile, an ex-official doesn’t understand all the fuss.

When looking for a new coach, FC Bayern Munich asked Julen Lopetegui for Sky information.

The 57-year-old Spaniard most recently coached the English Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers, where his contract was terminated at the beginning of last August a few days before the start of the season. Lopetegui had previously looked after the Spanish national team, Real Madrid and Sevilla FC, among others.

“Bild” also reported that the Munich-based company was checking whether Lopetegui would be an option as a coach. Accordingly, Roger Schmidt from Benfica Lisbon should also be an option. After the rejections of Ralf Rangnick, Julian Nagelsmann and Xabi Alonso, the record football champions are still looking for a successor to coach Thomas Tuchel, who will be leaving the club in the summer.

Meanwhile, FC Bayern’s former technical director, Michael Reschke, “doesn’t understand all the excitement. It’s not the end of the world that FC Bayern hasn’t found a coach yet,” he told Sport1. The club has certainly not lost any of its attractiveness. “Everyone would be well advised to simply trust Max Eberl and Christoph Freund,” said Reschke (66).

The fact is that the candidates’ decisions were not against the club. “Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick have decided on their very interesting existing jobs. That is absolutely understandable. One has everything he needs in Leverkusen. The other has the dream job of national coach and the third is revered in Austria,” said Reschke.
