Several media outlets are treating Roger Schmidt as a candidate for the coaching job at FC Bayern. But he now makes it very clear that he wants to fulfill his contract with Benfica Lisbon.
Roger Schmidt, who has been reported by several media outlets, is not interested in the coaching job at FC Bayern Munich this summer.
“It’s clear to me that I’ll stay at Benfica until 2026. That’s what I want. That’s why I signed a new contract,” said the 57-year-old on Saturday at the Benfica training ground in Seixal. “I’m not on the market. I have a job at Benfica.”
After Ralf Rangnick’s cancellation, various media linked the former Bundesliga coach with the Munich team. The current season is disappointing for Benfica and will probably end without a title. But Schmidt signed a new contract until 2026 around a year ago and wants to fulfill it.
“As a coach, I also have to see the development and potential for the coming years,” said Schmidt. “I think a lot of things are good.” Since his arrival almost two years ago, a lot has changed for the better.
