The general director of the Russian Figure Skating Federation, Alexander Kogan, on Sunday, December 26, spoke about the reasons for the absence of Andrey Mozalev in the main squad of the Russian national team for the European Figure Skating Championships.
“That was the proposal of the coaching council,” he told Sport-Express.
So, the place of Mozalev was taken by Evgeny Semenenko, who showed the 4th result at the Russian championship.
“Semenenko is a more experienced athlete. During the season, he showed better results than Mozalev. The Coaching Council made such proposals, and the Executive Committee approved it, ”concluded Kogan.
The men’s team of the Russian national team included Mark Kondratyuk, Mikhail Kolyada, Evgeny Semenenko. Among the substitutes are Andrey Mozalev, Petr Gumennik and Alexander Samarin.
The European Championship will take place from 10 to 16 January in Tallinn.
Earlier that day, the composition of the women’s team of the Russian national team for the European Figure Skating Championships became known. It includes figure skaters Kamila Valieva, Alexandra Trusova and Anna Shcherbakova.
The reserve team included Sofya Muravyova, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva and Maya Khromykh.
On December 24, figure skater Mark Kondratyuk became the champion of Russia in men’s single skating. According to the sum of performances, he scored 284.37 points. The second place was taken by Mikhail Kolyada – 283.70 points. Andrey Mozalev closed the top three – 278.28 points.
Evgeny Semenenko, who was in the lead after the short program, took fourth place with 274.28 points.
