National team: Mittelstädt named to the German European Championship squad

Maximilian Mittelstädt has had a strong season. The reward is an appointment to the European Championship squad. His debut goal in the DFB jersey remains associated with an old German hit.

Stuttgart’s Maximilian Mittelstädt is part of the German national soccer team’s squad for the home European Championship – and “completely detached”.

The 27-year-old’s appointment was announced by singer Peter Schilling on Instagram. His hit “Major Tom” delighted German football fans last March in the friendly victories in France (2-0) and against the Netherlands (2-1). The song was played as a goal anthem when Mittelstädt scored his debut goal in the second game in Frankfurt.

“Outstanding. The best thing is, he is a completely normal guy, an incredibly nice guy, friendly, in a good mood, always,” said national coach Julian Nagelsmann after the victory over the VfB left full-back, who had played his first two international matches .

Almost a year ago, Mittelstädt and Hertha BSC were relegated from the Bundesliga – now he is part of the squad for the home tournament (June 14th to July 14th). The entire line-up will be announced by Nagelsmann this Thursday in Berlin.
