Verstappen races to pole position for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix – and sets a record set by Senna. Formula 1 qualifying in Imola is also going well for Hülkenberg.
Max Verstappen also grabbed the seventh pole position of this Formula 1 season. The Red Bull driver relegated Oscar Piastri to second place in the McLaren at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari and secured first place on the grid for the 39th time in his career.
For the Dutchman, who had previously complained about a lack of balance in his car, it was the eighth pole in a row across the season. In doing so, he set a record set by Ayrton Senna in 1988 and 1989. The Brazilian died in Imola 30 years ago. Piastri’s teammate Lando Norris came third on Saturday.
Haas driver Nico Hülkenberg achieved a strong tenth place at his debut in Imola.
