Chess player Nepomniachtchi scored three points on the second day of the World Rapid Championship

Russian grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi earned three points in the second day of the Rapid World Championship.

Nepomniachtchi beat the Polish athlete Jan-Krzysztof Dudu and the American Timur Gareev. His fight with Baadur Jobava from Georgia and Boris Gelfand from Israel ended with an equal score, RT notes.

The Russians Alexander Grischuk and Kirill Alekseenko also scored three points each. Sergey Karjakin earned 3.5 points, Daniil Dubov – 2.5 points, Vladimir Fedoseev – 2 points.

So, the second place is shared by Nepomniachtchi, Grischuk and Nodirbek Abdusattorov from Uzbekistan, each of them has seven points in the asset. The current winner of the chess crown, the Norwegian Magnus Carlsen (7.5), is in the lead in the tournament.

In women, after the second day, Russia’s Alexandra Kosteniuk is the sole leader with 7.5 points in eight games. Valentina Gunina is in fifth place with 5.5 points, says Sport-Express.

On December 24, Nepomniachtchi won a friendly chess match with businessman Vladimir Potanin. The game was played with a time control of 30 minutes for each player without adding, it ended on the 38th move. Nepomniachtchi played with black pieces.
