Five years of Anton Gavel at Ratiopharm Ulm are over. The championship coach says goodbye with an admission of guilt after the early playoff exit.
Anton Gavel has taken full responsibility for the early playoff elimination of basketball champion Ratiopharm Ulm.
“In the end, it’s definitely my fault. I should have prepared the team better for the whole series, which is why I’m so disappointed. I should have done a better job. That wasn’t the case. I have to get better at that,” said the head coach after the 72:75 defeat at Würzburg Baskets, who thus advanced to the semifinals. Ulm were eliminated in the quarterfinals with a score of 1:3.
The 39-year-old Gavel, who brought Ulm its first championship in the club’s history last year, is leaving the club in the summer and moving to his former club Bamberg Baskets. “He deserves a fitting farewell because he has delivered sensational performances as a coach in Ulm. We have celebrated the greatest success in the club’s history. He is a great coach and a great person,” said captain Tommy Klepeisz. Gavel will be replaced in Ulm by Ty Harrelson.
