Tragic accident at an eventing race in Great Britain: Rider Georgie Campbell fell fatally at an obstacle. Her horse was not injured.
British rider Georgie Campbell has died after a fall at the eventing tournament in Bicton. The umbrella organization British Eventing announced this on Sunday. The 36-year-old had a fatal accident at the International Horse Trials in the county of Devon, according to a statement. After her fall at obstacle 5b, Campbell was examined by medical professionals but could not be saved. Her horse Global Quest was examined by veterinarians on site and was able to be brought back to the stable unharmed, it was reported. The tournament, which still had the cross-country ride scheduled for Sunday, was canceled.
“It is with great regret that we announce that Georgie Campbell was killed in an accident at the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon, England on Sunday 26 May 2024,” the organisers wrote in a statement. “After her fall at obstacle 5b, medical personnel were immediately called, but unfortunately she could not be saved. The horse, Global Quest, was examined by the on-site veterinarians and was able to return to the stable unharmed. To respect the family’s privacy at this extremely difficult and sad time, no further details will be released.”

Georgie Campbell was an experienced rider
Campbell was an experienced rider. After a career as a show jumper, she switched to eventing. Formerly known as military riding, riders compete in the three disciplines of show jumping, dressage and cross-country. Campbell competed several times for Great Britain in major competitions such as the Nations Cup. She won six tournaments in her career. In 2020, she married event rider Jesse Campbell, who had previously represented New Zealand at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The couple formed the Campell Eventing team. She had been a couple with her horse Global Quest for five years.
