In fact, the Law 25,342 establishes that “the sports associations and/or the holders of the television broadcasting rights of football matches where the Argentine National Team participatesorganized by the International Association of Football Federation, the South American Football Confederation or the International Olympic Committee, “They must market these rights in such a way as to guarantee the live transmission of said matches throughout the national territory.”
Additionally, the Law 26,522establishes in its article 77 that “The right to universal access is guaranteed – through audiovisual communication services – to information content of relevant interest and to sporting events, football matches or other genres or specialties.”
As was publicly known, the broadcast of the matches of the argentine national team It would be done only through two payment platforms, one cable (TyC Sports) and another satellite ( DirecTV), while the channel TELEFE acquired the television rights, but its coverage does not reach the entire country.
“Without prejudice to the multiplicity of transmissions, we ask that those populations be taken into account where neither cable, nor TDA, nor satellite TV reaches; only Public TV reaches by air. That is why we ask that for those areas, guarantee the transmission of the matches”highlights the legislator of the Socialist Party.
This transmission scheme would leave thousands of Argentines without being able to watch the national representative meetings.
