Leon Draisaitl’s hopes of winning the Stanley Cup in the NHL have been dashed. The Edmonton Oilers now have to make up a deficit in the series against the Dallas Stars.
The Edmonton Oilers, led by German ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl, lost their first home game in the NHL semifinal series against the Dallas Stars. The Oilers lost 3:5 (2:0, 1:3, 0:2) and fell behind 1:2 in the best-of-seven series. The first team to win four times will advance to the finals of the North American ice hockey league. On Wednesday (local time), the Oilers have the chance to even up the series again with another home game.
As in the previous game, Draisatil remained goalless and assistless after having recorded at least one point in each of the first 13 playoff games this season. The Oilers led 2-0 after the first period thanks to goals from Zach Hyman and Connor McDavid, but conceded three goals in a row in three and a half minutes in the second period.
“I don’t know where those ten, 15 minutes came from, but that’s been the case throughout the playoffs. We gave them the chance to get back into the game,” said McDavid about the Oilers’ weak phase in the second period, in which the hosts managed to equalize at 3-3.
In the final period, Jason Robertson scored for the Stars for the third time. He scored a hat trick for the first time in his playoff career. Miro Heiskanen scored into an empty net to seal the victory with two minutes to go.
