Basketball Bundesliga: Alba Berlin loses semi-final opener against Chemnitz

In the first semi-final match, the Berliners barely found their rhythm. There was little going on in defence, in particular. Chemnitz celebrated their opening victory.

Alba Berlin got off to a bad start in the semifinals of the Basketball Bundesliga. The Berlin team lost 82:95 (32:44) at home in front of 8,147 spectators against the Niners Chemnitz. This means that the Berlin team is 0:1 behind in the best-of-five series.

The next game will take place again in Berlin on Friday (6:30 p.m./Dyn). Berlin’s best scorers were Sterling Brown with 24 and Johannes Thiemann with 23 points.

From the beginning, the game was very intense. Both teams had problems on offense. For Alba in particular, it was mostly just Thiemann and Brown who scored points. The hosts also had difficulties under the basket, allowing the visitors many offensive rebounds and thus more opportunities to shoot. At first, however, neither team was able to pull ahead. Alba found too few offensive resources, while Chemnitz scored. With a 12-0 run shortly before halftime, the visitors were able to pull ahead by double digits for the first time.

Even after the break, Alba hardly improved. Berlin continued to struggle. Chemnitz was much better. The hosts defended more energetically in the final period, but they were unable to get closer than six points.
