Mohammed Ben Sulayem stated that a recent survey revealed that 75% of athletes had reported threats to their physical safety. More than 90% agreed that athletes would leave their sport if online abuse was not addressed. The problem also affects those who offer their time for free.
“I received threats, our volunteers received threats, our drivers received threats, our marshals. If we allow this to happen for a long time, our sport will not be fixed,” he said.
