Schism in the Professional League: 18 clubs ask for elections to unseat Tinelli

The businessman and TV host, for some leaders, is in the eye of the storm, being criticized for his management in the Professional League.

From the press of the Professional League classified as “informal” the meeting this Tuesday in order to remember the validity of the call to the Executive Committee of the entity made for January 11, 2022.

Cristian Malaspina, first vice president of the entity, was the first to arrive in Puerto Madero for a meeting scheduled at 3:00 p.m. to analyze the future of the organization, on an afternoon marked by the high temperature in the City of Buenos Aires.

Ricardo Carloni, from Rosario Central; Héctor “Yoyo” Maldonado, from Independiente; Luis Chebel, from Lanús; José Lemme, from Defense and Justice; David Garzón, from Huracán; Matías Tapia de Barracas Central, among other leaders, met to exchange opinions on Tinelli’s work, questioned by Malaspina.

“The lack of management is taking positions to all the clubs. Tinelli must admit that obviously he does not have the time or desire to drive this boat”, said the president of Argentinos Juniors days ago in an exclusive note with Télam.

The clubs without representatives were San Lorenzo, Banfield and Vélez. These last two, with Eduardo Spinosa (general director of the Professional League) and Sergio Rapisarda (secretary), are aligned with Tinelli.

From River, As Télam found out, they slipped that they are “out of the fight” because they request that the clubs once again have weight over the decisions related to Argentine soccer.

The arrival of Riquelme surprised everyone, even though according to information provided to Télam, the intention of some Boca leaders was not to attend, despite the differences they have with Tinelli, but the club’s top idol decided at the last minute to be present at the call in Puerto Madero .

Riquelme made his first appearance in the Argentine tournament and in this way accentuated his position over Tinelli. He had a critical stance when Boca played with reserve footballers against San Lorenzo for the championship. The Professional League rejected the “xeneize” request after the scandal in Brazil after the loss on penalties to Atlético Mineiro for the Copa Libertadores de América.

Those appointed in Boca for these meetings are Roberto Digón, third vice president; and Ricardo Rosica, general secretary.

Boca’s second vice president avoided the press and was in tune with the rest of the leaders, who did not express an opinion on the matter.

The League denied to Télam that Tinelli participated in the meeting through Zoom. The president of Arsenal, Julio Ricardo Grondona, did so under this modality.

In turn, they pointed out that the removal of Tinelli as the starter was not discussed, but the discomfort of a significant number of clubs was noted due to the management of the television host.

Tinelli criticized days ago the intention of the dissident leaders and classified their actions as a “devious coup”. Malaspina responded to the driver’s statements and relied on the regulations, in articles 16 and 17 with the call for elections within 90 days.

The first meeting of the Executive Committee will be on January 11, 2022, the date proposed by Tinelli, the same day as the fixture draw for next year’s tournaments at the Hilton hotel in Puerto Madero. At that time the request for elections will be made official.

Malaspina warned journalists by WhatsApp that he will not provide statements about the meeting, at least on Tuesday.

A total of 15 clubs were in favor of Tinelli’s removal in the first instance: Aldosivi, Lanús, Argentinos Juniors, Independiente, Gimnasia, Estudiantes, Godoy Cruz, Rosario Central, Huracán, Defensa y Justicia, Arsenal, Colón, Platense, Sarmiento and Central Córdoba.

The meeting added the novelty of the presence of Boca leaders, with the appearance of Riquelme, Racing, through a representative, and Barracas Central.
