Former BVB coach Jürgen Klopp accepted an invitation from Dortmund’s managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke and sat in the stadium for the Champions League final. There was a lot of applause from the fans.
Borussia Dortmund will also receive the support of coaching icon Jürgen Klopp in the Champions League final against Real Madrid. The BVB coach of the last Champions League final team in 2013 was shown on the screen on Saturday evening at London’s Wembley Stadium, just over an hour before kick-off, to the cheers of the many Dortmund fans. Klopp raised his fists and waved to the fans as the BVB supporters reacted exuberantly.
Ottmar Hitzfeld canceled
Klopp (56) was BVB coach in 2013 when Dortmund lost the final at the same venue against FC Bayern and most recently coached the top English club FC Liverpool. After leaving the Reds, he wants to take a year off.
Ottmar Hitzfeld, who led Dortmund to their only Champions League success to date in 1997, did not accept the invitation from club boss Hans-Joachim Watzke to come to London – he wanted to watch the match on television.
