The US tennis player is regaining her momentum after losing the first set. The fact that the majority of fans are supporting her opponent apparently does not bother the US Open winner.
Coco Gauff is the first tennis player to reach the semifinals of this year’s French Open in Paris. The 20-year-old from the USA won her quarterfinal match against the Tunisian Ons Jabeur (29) 4:6, 6:2, 6:3 after an improvement in performance. In the round of the best four, the US Open winner will face either the Polish world number one Iga Swiatek or Marketa Vondrousova from the Czech Republic.
“She is a tough opponent and I knew you wanted to see her win,” Gauff said to the fans on Court Philippe Chatrier, most of whom were cheering Jabeur on. “I like playing in such an atmosphere. I really had a lot of fun, even though I lost the first set.”
At the age of 20 years and 82 days, the American is the youngest player since Maria Sharapova between 2006 and 2007 to reach three Grand Slam semifinals in a row, according to data provider Opta.
