Anyone who likes Argentine football knows that the surname Calderón is synonymous with goal. Jose Luis Calderon, champion with Estudiantes de la Plata, Arsenal de Sarandí, Argentinos Juniors and Cambaceres, became one of the most outstanding scorers of the century in the country. However, today we will not talk about the great career that this former top scorer had, but rather we will tell the incredible story of Lucas Calderón, his son.

Born in La Plata on June 30, 1998, he was raised among fields, boots and balls. He followed the paths of his father and became what many dream of: to be professional football player. However, a series of events made the former forward change course to dedicate himself to a business that has nothing to do with what was his first profession: What happened that he hung up his boots at the age of 25?

Lucas Calderón’s football career

Despite having been inferior in Estudiantes and his father being an idol of the club, Lucas changed paths. With the pass in his possession, in 2017 he became Silver Gymnastics to be able to make his official debut in October 2018 in what was Lobo’s 1-0 victory against Tomba in “El Bosque”. “But I made it on my own, when I made my debut in Gimnasia it was on my own merit, not because I was the son of,” said the young ex-footballer who worked as a winger in an interview with Olé.

During his time at Lobo, he took with him the best memory and gift that football could give him: be directed by Diego Armando Maradona. Diego arrived at “Lobo” to save it from relegation in September 2019 and although Lucas did not have many opportunities, he told what it was like to have one of the best in history up close: “Divine. You feel him close all the time. He spoke with everyone and he was in constant communication with the team. It was more listening to him than going to talk to him because it made you feel like you didn’t know how to get in, ha.”

But things began to get complicated for “Caldera’s” son. After Gimnasia he had small steps in various clubs such as Villa San Carlos, Cipolleti, Sportivo Las Parejas and until last year he defended the colors of Beautiful View of Uruguay. At the age of 25, Lucas decided to hang up his boots and abandon a lifetime of sacrifices to focus on something else.

“In 2022, when I was playing for Sportivo Las Parejas, I got involved with a very rude football representative who had my old man for almost his entire career and left me unemployed for more than eight months. In other words, I had a representative with contacts and he He hung up. I rejected a lot of things for this representative and I was left without playing. I was offered to go to Europe a lot of times and I rejected many offers from local football. So, time goes by, things don’t work out and you stay. without anything. That happened to me. I was tired of the current football environment. The fatigue is accumulated from a lot of things: fighting against the football business and things that don’t depend on you. I played a lot and I stayed. without anything. You give everything and the doors don’t open for you,” Lucas commented when remembering what happened. Furthermore, he added: “When you start to suffer what you enjoyed all your life, it gets angry.”

What Lucas Calderón did after retiring from football

Currently, at almost 26 years old, Lucas is dedicated fully and with hope to the real estate business. He is a Re/Max agent in his hometown where he is dedicated to “searching, selling and offering” real estate.

In any case, the profession is not something that fell from the sky like magic, but rather it runs in the family. His grandfather had owned a real estate company and his mother is also dedicated to the field: “It is the best decision I made: I am excited and eager to learn. Today I am committed to continuing to grow.”
