Tennis: Alcaraz reaches French Open semifinals and challenges Sinner

Many tennis fans will be looking forward to this semi-final of the French Open. Alcaraz dominates Tsitsipas and makes the encounter with the future number one perfect.

Spain’s tennis star Carlos Alcaraz has reached the semifinals of the French Open and will challenge future world number one Jannik Sinner in a duel of young stars.

The 21-year-old deservedly won his quarter-final on Court Philippe Chatrier against the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in just three sets with 6:3, 7:6 (7:3), 6:4. For Alcaraz, it was already the 50th victory in a Grand Slam match and the fifth semi-final appearance in one of the four major tournaments.

Sinner, who is a year older, had previously won 6:2, 6:4, 7:6 (7:3) against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov and then received the news that he would become the new number one after the tournament had ended due to the withdrawal of Serbian defending champion Novak Djokovic. Sinner will be the first Italian to top the world rankings.

Friday’s duel between Sinner and Alcaraz will be – given the age of the two players – the youngest Grand Slam semi-final since the duel between Briton Andy Murray and Spaniard Rafael Nadal in 2008 at the US Open.

Tsitsipas could still compete in doubles with his brother Petros on Wednesday. Their third-round match against the French Manuel Guinard and Gregoire Jacq is scheduled for the afternoon. The world number ninth had previously withdrawn from the mixed doubles competition with his Spanish girlfriend Paula Badosa in favor of his title chance in the singles.
