Basketball: NBA finals: Boston also wins game two

The Boston Celtics also win the second game of the NBA finals series. The pressure is increasing for the Dallas Mavericks and superstar Luka Doncic.

Record champions Boston Celtics have also won the second game of the NBA finals series and have their sights firmly set on their 18th championship title in the North American professional basketball league.

The team from the US state of Massachusetts won its second home game against the Dallas Mavericks, led by German Maximilian Kleber, 105:98 and leads the best-of-seven series 2:0. This means that Dallas is already under a lot of pressure ahead of its two home games on Wednesday and Friday.

Even a strong Luka Doncic could not prevent the Texans from losing again. The Slovenian superstar once again contributed a triple-double with 32 points, eleven rebounds and eleven assists. It was the first ever in the history of the Mavericks in a final series.

As in the first game, the 25-year-old lacked the support of his teammates. Kyrie Irving was disappointing with only 16 points. Kleber played a total of 16 minutes, but failed to score on four shots towards the basket.

Boston has been waiting for a title for 16 years

Jrue Holiday stood out for the hosts with 26 points and eleven rebounds. In contrast to the Mavericks, however, Boston’s squad had the right depth. Jaylen Brown (21 points) and Jayson Tatum (18 points, twelve assists) also played their part in the victory, although Tatum had a very mixed evening by his standards with a field goal percentage of just 27 percent.

“That’s why they’re number 1 in the NBA and have the best record,” said Doncic, referring to the balance of the main round winner from Boston: “They have a lot of great players. Basically, anyone can get started.”

Boston, which dominated the NBA especially in the 1960s, last won the championship title in 2008. The Mavericks, led by Dirk Nowitzki, celebrated their only title win to date three years later.
