The players of the Russian youth ice hockey team spoke about the cancellation of the MFM

The players of the Russian youth hockey team Marat Khusnutdinov and Shakir Mukhamadullin, after the cancellation of the World Youth Championship on December 30, announced that the team had come to play hockey, and not look to blame for certain circumstances.

“We are not discussing this. What happened happened. It didn’t depend on us. And now to look for someone guilty, firstly, this is not our business. We came to play hockey, but it turned out that we found a positive test. There was no talk in the team about this, ”Khusnutdinov said in an interview with REN TV.

Shakir Mukhamadullin added that in a professional environment, everyone understands the situation in which the competition took place, and no one was immune from such a development of events. But at the tournament, hockey players thought only about playing and winning, no one expected quarantine and cancellation of matches.

“We don’t think about it. As in our plan: we hand over the PCR test in the morning, then breakfast and preparation for the match. The head is busy only with the game, and we are preparing directly for it. All this medical information is not important for us, because we have our own game, for which we must prepare and go directly to it, ”the athlete explained.

Forward Marat Khusnutdinov noted that all the players of the Russian national team observed sanitary and epidemiological requirements, wore masks and did not communicate with anyone outside the national team.

“And we passed PCR with confidence. We didn’t think about anything like that, ”he said.

On December 29, due to a positive test from the forward of the Russian national team Matvey Michkov, the Russians were credited with a forfeit defeat in the canceled match against Slovakia. Honored hockey coach of Russia Vladimir Plyushchev criticized this decision, noting that the organizers had to calculate all the options for the development of events at the tournament.

On December 30, the Council of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) canceled the MHM, stressing that the health of the players is a priority. Federation President Luc Tardiff noted that the organization has adjusted the tournament protocols to introduce daily testing and a requirement to quarantine the team upon confirmation of positive cases, but that was not enough.
