Aleksandar Pavlovic is still missing from the national team’s headquarters. Without the Munich player, an important appointment before the European Championship kick-off will not take place.
Aleksandar Pavlovic’s illness has affected Julian Nagelsmann’s schedule ahead of the opening match of the European Championship against Scotland. The planned date for the team photo with all players of the European Championship squad was cancelled at short notice before team training. The 20-year-old midfielder from FC Bayern Munich had not yet travelled to the national football team’s European Championship quarters in Herzogenaurach due to an infection.
The shooting should be rescheduled with as many as possible of the 26 players from the squad for the home tournament, possibly on Thursday before the final training session, ideally also with Pavlovic. The Munich player was the only player from Nagelsmann’s squad who was also absent from the training session on Wednesday. All other 22 field players and three goalkeepers were on the pitch for the training session.
As things stand, Pavlovic will not play a role in the national coach’s plans for the opening match against Scotland on Friday (9 p.m.) in Munich because of the infection. Toni Kroos and Robert Andrich are set to play in the number six position. Pascal Groß is the first backup.
International debut against Ukraine
This continues the young Bayern pro’s streak of bad luck with the DFB team. Pavlovic had already had to cancel a possible debut in March for the matches in France (2-0) and against the Netherlands (2-1) due to tonsillitis. In Herzogenaurach he recently announced that he would consider an operation this summer due to the recurring problems.
At the first training camp in Blankenhain at the end of May, Pavlovic joined team training a few days late. He then made his international debut as a substitute in the 0:0 draw against Ukraine in Nuremberg at the beginning of last week. After his strong debut season with Bayern, Pavlovic decided to pursue a career in the Germany jersey. He could also play international matches for Serbia.
