Alarm on the Berlin fan mile for the opening of the European Football Championship at the Brandenburg Gate. There, a “suspicious object” The police are on duty

The Berlin police have issued a warning before the European Championship opening match between Germany and Scotland (9 p.m., live on ZDF or star-Ticker) Parts of the fan mile at the Brandenburg Gate were cordoned off. The reason was a “suspicious object” in the entrance area on Scheidemannstrasse, officials announced on Friday afternoon on X, formerly Twitter. This is now being examined by experts.

Berlin’s European Championship fan mile partially closed

The object was a backpack, a police spokesman told the news agency DPA – it was initially unclear whether it could actually pose a danger. It is also possible that it was left behind by a fan, because only bags up to A4 size are allowed on the fan mile. A restricted area has been drawn around the baggage, according to the police, meaning that three entrances to Germany’s largest European Championship fan zone are therefore not usable.

The fan mile around the Brandenburg Gate and along Straße des 17. Juni has space for up to 60,000 visitors. Over the next four weeks, all Germany matches, all matches played in Berlin (including the final) and the quarter-final and semi-final matches will be shown on large screens. An entertainment program is also planned. The organizers announced in advance that there would be strong security measures for the fan festival.

First, the “Picture”newspaper reported on the police operation.
