Russian woman Kosteniuk wins silver at the World Blitz Championship

Russia’s Alexandra Kosteniuk won a silver medal at the 2021 World Rapid Chess Championship in the blitz discipline at the tournament in Warsaw.

The 37-year-old chess player from Perm scored 12.5 points at the end of the tournament, writes RT. Gold went to 17-year-old participant from Kazakhstan Bibisara Assaubayeva, who scored 14 points. Russian woman Valentina Gunina won bronze with 12 points.

On December 28, Kosteniuk won the Rapid World Championship in the Rapid discipline.

Earlier on December 30, Russian grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi lost to Norwegian Magnus Carlsen in the 20th round of the World Blitz Championship.

Carlsen defeated Nepomniachtchi in the 11th game of the match for the world chess crown on December 10 and defended his world title ahead of schedule in Dubai.

As a result of 11 games, Carlsen won the match with a score of 7.5: 3.5 with black pieces.

The prize fund for the title of world champion is € 2 million. Carlsen will receive € 1.2 million, Nepomniachtchi – € 800 thousand.
