Germany’s national football team left its mark on the colourful and entertaining opening of the 2024 European Championship in Munich and also won the third match against Scotland at a major tournament. After a 2-1 win at the 1986 World Cup and a 2-0 win at the 1992 European Championship – the DFB team reached the final at both events, by the way – this time there was a convincing 5-1 (3-0) victory, for which the course was set early, as was the case with the 2006 World Cup summer fairytale.
Back then, the current tournament director Philipp Lahm also scored in the Allianz Arena in the 6th minute of the 4:2 win against Costa Rica. 18 years later, Florian Wirtz from champions Bayer Leverkusen made his mark in the tenth minute. Toni Kroos made an elegant switch, Joshua Kimmich passed to the center on the edge of the penalty area, shot from around 17 meters – goal.
